ONGOING HGL MANAGED PROJECTS FOR BGF

Kiambere Project

Located in Kitui County, this site is managed by Humi Green Ltd (HGL) on behalf of Better Globe Forestry (BGF). The project focuses on large-scale dryland afforestation using Melia volkensii (mukau), a drought-resistant species, for high-quality timber production and carbon sequestration. It also serves as a research hub for innovative forestry practices, including trials with tetraploid clones for enhanced growth and resilience.

Kiambere

In collaboration with the Belgian Embassy, trees have been planted in Kiambere to help offset some of their carbon footprint, demonstrating a practical approach to addressing climate change through sustainable forestry initiatives.

GIC

Another key initiative within the Kiambere project is the Green Initiative Challenge (GIC), conducted in partnership with KenGen. This program promotes environmental conservation and sustainable practices, encouraging local communities and schools to actively participate in tree planting and environmental stewardship.

7F (Seven Forks) Project

Managed by HGL for BGF near the Seven Forks Dam system, this project integrates sustainable forestry with soil and water conservation. It includes agroforestry initiatives that support local farmers by combining tree planting with crop production, improving both livelihoods and environmental health.

Nyongoro Project

In Kenya’s coastal region, HGL oversees this BGF project focused on afforestation and reforestation efforts in semi-arid areas. The project promotes biodiversity restoration, provides sustainable timber resources, and supports local communities through education and capacity-building programs.

Dokolo Project

Located in northern Uganda, this project is managed by HGL on behalf of BGF. It combines community-led afforestation efforts with commercial forestry, balancing environmental restoration with economic opportunities. The initiative emphasizes engaging local communities in sustainable land management practices while generating income through timber and carbon credits.
